Last year, God used my wife, Mie, and me powerfully in Uganda with Sovereign Wings of Hope (SWOH). We trained 300 pastors, elders, and leaders, preached the gospel, led worship, ran a STEM camp, and more. Though we work as a teacher and a refugee assistance supervisor, we’ll soon embark on a three-week mission to Uganda to assist the terminally ill, train pastors, and share the gospel. Before I continue, I’d like to recount some of our experiences.

A History of Hope

Over 45 years ago, Rev. Daniel and Joy Situka, my parents, founded SWOH, and we are excited to continue their legacy. Despite development, Uganda still needs hope: only 1 in 4 children graduate from 8th grade, nearly 60% of the 43 million people never see a health worker, and over 6 million require end-of-life care but lack access. While Islam is the fastest-growing religion in rural areas, many Ugandans feel that religions do not fully support them, especially at the end of life.

Last summer, we traveled with our team over 150 miles preaching in churches across Kampala and Jinja, sharing a message of hope from the story of Ruth. Then after another 150 miles we entered Namwiwa and trained pastors on Bible basics. One attendee, deeply moved, said, “I cannot believe God has a plan for us even in hard times. His way is truly best.”

Mie led worship at each stop, learning and singing in two East African dialects. Her heartfelt worship prepared hearts for the Word, inspiring a young attendee to pursue preaching and music ministry. Finally, we encouraged over 30 young adults at a Wings of Hope Youth Fellowship leadership training and over 100 students at an engineering camp for 8th graders, equipping them to grow their skills in the Lord and serve their communities.

OUR Hopeful Calling

After witnessing the impact of our work last summer and recognizing the growing need, we believe God is calling us to return to Uganda in July 2025. In a new region, more than 80 pastors are eager to receive training. Our community clinic and local hospice need updated computer equipment and staff training. In addition, several community members are interested in launching a micro-financed women’s home business initiative. Finally, multiple churches have invited us to return and continue ministering among them.

Hope with Us

The projected budget for the 2025 project is now $9,300. In light of the global climate and with caution in mind, we have adjusted our travel plans. Instead of connecting through the Middle East as originally planned, our flights will now connect through Europe. At this point, my team expects to have ~70% of the total raised by July 1. While any gift is appreciated, would you consider a one time donation $500? For those willing to pray, our prayer partners will receive frequent “on the ground” updates as we do this work.
